Finally – Conference Time!

Level 6 BA (Hons) Advancing Practice top-up degree student Vicky reflects on the recent student conference.

It seems strange to think that the last conference that I attended was in the February of my first year, and now I’ve just attended my first conference in my third year and have just graduated from my foundation degree.

I had been looking forward to this for weeks and everyone I spoke to about it was feeling the same.  We were all so looking forward to getting together and spending some quality time face to face, (obviously this meant at the bar as well as in teaching sessions).

First things first and I had to attend a meeting of the Staff, Student, Liaison Committee which was also the first time since that last conference that we were able to meet in person.  This time, however we were joined by course leaders from both Level 4 and 5 which was good as it felt that we were finally complete in terms of all year groups being represented.

Then onto a session which for me was all Learning and Education students from all three levels and was a chance to hear how other year groups are finding the course and also being able to pass on tips and advice that we have gained over the last two years.

After we had had dinner and finished the teaching session for the evening, we then retreated to the bar to have a few drinks with staff and fellow students and catch up on all that’s been happening over the last 20 months since we were all together.

Saturday was a very intense day of learning but so much information was shared and hopefully retained to be put to good use in the not-too-distant future.

I truly cannot wait to attend the next conference and I hope that COVID doesn’t put a stop to it.  I would say to anyone who hasn’t gone to the conference that it truly is an extremely worthwhile weekend, not just for what you learn over the two days but from the friendships that you form with students from other areas.
