MA Education Values-Led Leadership

The Learning Institute, in partnership with Newman University, are offering an innovative MA Education: Values-Led Leadership. The MA is designed for those who work in any field of education or training, and whose aim is to develop and improve their leadership skills, enhance their professional profile and engage in rigorous research and high level inquiry.

The MA can be delivered within a group of schools, or Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) to further develop Professional Mastery and Leadership across a team, ensuring research-based practice, a strong leadership pathway and succession planning.

Alternatively, individuals are welcome to study for an MA at our open groups across Devon and Cornwall, enabling MA students to link research and developing skills to their professional aspirations.

About the course

Our MA is a flexible course, combining taught modules and Living Theory research. Living Theory is a values-based methodology which starts with the student and their practice, values and the educational influences they have.

The MA is designed for those who work in any field of education or training, and whose aim is to develop and improve their leadership skills, enhance their professional profile and engage in rigorous research and high level inquiry.

Participants will join a vibrant learning community affiliated with Newman University, combining a mixture of face-to-face and online learning, creating flexibility for working students. Taught sessions for each module will be one full Saturday and 3 two hour twilight sessions.  Location and timings of sessions for a cluster of schools or MAT can be planned in conjunction with their CPD timetable.

What you can expect to study?

Modules:

  • Values-led Educational Leadership (30 credits)
  • Professional Enquiry (30 credits)
  • Leading Change (30 credits)
  • Research Methods (30 credits)
  • Dissertation (60 credits)

Each of the five modules provides academic rigour, excellent supervision and high quality resources and support.

An academic tutor and academic librarian provide both formal teaching sessions and support on information and research skills. Participants have access to the University of Newman’s online library, containing a vast range of e-books and journals.

Participants enjoy a friendly, energising research community that provides individual support from highly qualified, enthusiastic and experienced tutors.

Career progression

The modules support professional development through investigation of current educational issues in the context of values-led leadership. The MA can develop leadership of teaching and learning, administrative lead or senior leaders. Research based values-led practice through a Living Theory methodology is at the heart of our MA.
