Entry Requirements 
 

The programme is a progression pathway to a full honours degree for anyone who has recently completed a relevant foundation degree, equating to 240 credits combined at levels 4 and 5. It is expected that all applicants will have current experience of working within relevant professional environments and a valid Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.

About the course  

The BA (Hons) in Professional Practice (BAPP for short) provides you with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and skills within your chosen field to meet the current and future demands of your role. The programme is accredited by the University of Worcester and delivered by The Learning Institute at venues across Cornwall, Devon and London. BAPP encompasses a blended learning approach enabling you to share and pursue varied and professionally relevant themes and expertise, with colleagues from other professional contexts, promoting an interactive and meaningful approach to learning and the learning environment.

BAPP is designed around a blended learning approach which synthesises direct contact time such as lectures, workshops and tutorials with directed and independent studying and the University’s innovative virtual learning environment. You will develop a profile of skills, achievements and experiences enabling you to flourish and be successful in your studies, equipping you for lifelong learning and future employment.

As a student you will have high quality support from an Academic Tutor who will guide you through your Independent Study, and Specialism Tutors who will provide the specialist content knowledge you require for successful completion of your chosen pathway. Understanding and learning is assessed through the completion of various formative activities; formal or summative assignments for each module, which are graded and count towards the overall module grade; the compilation of a professional portfolio and reflective evaluations.

You will be expected to attend nine full taught sessions and a minimum of eight group or individual tutorials across the year. In between your taught sessions you will undertake around 15-20 hours of personal self-study per week, with plenty of opportunities to pursue areas that are of interest.

What can you expect to study?

Core Modules (15 credits each)

· Professional Development Planning – A critical analysis of your professional journey.

· Applied Psychological Perspectives – An examination of a range of psychological perspectives applied to: the developing child; teaching and learning; motivation and professional relationships.

· Evaluation and change within the Professional Context – An examination of evaluation strategies and application of these to your own work context.

Independent study (45 credits)

This module will enable you to engage in extended independent study focusing on a key issue that you wish to research in depth. The module utilises a number of related skills, developed through your degree. You will be required to engage in systematic, professional

inquiry in a rigorous and self-critical manner, which will provide you with opportunities for personal, institutional and professional development.

Specialism Module (30 credits-three optional pathways)

This module supports you in developing the skills you will need to analyse and reflect upon the concepts and principles of a specific aspect of professional work within your work context. There are three possible pathways that can be undertaken through the specialist module which will affect your degree descriptor. Each optional pathway is further broken down into modular choices depending on your field of interest.
