School-based teacher training with The Learning Institute South West
Our primary and secondary postgraduate teacher training programmes are school-based. This is the best way to experience all aspects of life in school, learning from outstanding, practicing teachers.
Courses are delivered over one academic year, and include placements in our partnership schools, which are based across Devon and Cornwall.
A distinctive feature of our programmes is the consideration of the individual trainee which has led to the delivery of quality, bespoke training programmes.

Qualified Teacher Status and PGCE
All the Learning Institute South West programmes lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The programmes also meet the requirements of the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
Additionally, courses which include PGCE carry credits at Masters level (Level 7), which can be used towards a full Masters degree (this requires some further study completed with an accredited provider).
For QTS, you will be assessed through a Professional Portfolio. You will build evidence of how you are meeting the standards. This evidence will include observations of your teaching and written assignments where you will show your understanding of the profession. Your classroom experience will increase in each successive term of the programme as your confidence and ability develop.
The additional award of PGCE requires trainees to complete academic assignments at HEI Masters Level 7.
