About the Global Dimension
In 2009, The Learning Institute has been working with the Somerset Primary SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) to run a Department For International Development (DFID) Awareness programme, promoting the understanding of poverty reduction and sustainability in schools and communities in the South West.
Two aspects of the Every Child Matters agenda are 'Making a Positive Contribution' and 'Economic Well-being'. We believe that supporting young people's understanding of their global connectedness and raising awareness of issues related to development and poverty are integral parts of this agenda. Through this project we are increasing the knowledge of international development issues in schools in the South West. We are doing this through supporting ITT students in their delivery of development and poverty reduction projects.
We provide direct input to promote:
Knowledge and understanding of major challenges and prospects for development focusing on poverty reduction
Understanding of our global interdependence
The international efforts present to reduce poverty
That we are individuals can play in poverty reduction
The project includes SCITT students at The Learning Institute and Somerset along with their placement schools across the South West. If you are interested in linking up with us, please contact us.
