About the Foundation Degree in Integrated Children's Services
The Foundation Degree in Integrated Children's Services is a new course, due to start in September 2009. It is designed for all those working in children's services, such as health, youth work, the police or the Local Authority and is run in partnership with the University of Worcester. It will allow all students to continue in employment whilst they are studying - learn while you earn!
The foundation degree will focus on professional practice in safeguarding and supporting children and young people. A key aspect will be the development of inter-agency working and the need to address barriers to collaborative working for all involved in the care and support of children.
The principal aim of this programme is to enable participants to gain knowledge that directly relates to the roles they are currently employed in.
Attendance can be either one full day or one afternoon and evening for five days per half term, depending on the course attended. The course itself is two years with the option to extend it another year to take it an Honours Degree. It is made up of 16 modules - eight at Level 4 and eight at Level 5. A number of these can be completed within your work environment. This allows you to use your current work experience as a foundation on which to base your studies.
Assessment takes many forms - short presentations, reflections on observations or workplace tasks and assignments for example. We do not use exams as a method of assessment.
